How to reconnect with your family

The easiest first step is a question anyone can answer in a sentence — nothing that asks people to be vulnerable before they’re ready. Pick one of these and send it to the family (or ask it at the table):

1. What’s a smell or a song that instantly takes you back to being a kid?
2. Who in the family always made you laugh — and what did they do?
3. What’s a meal that tastes like home, and who made it best?
4. What’s a small thing you’re grateful one of us taught you?
5. What’s a story about our family you hope never gets forgotten?

Notice what these have in common: they’re warm, they’re easy, and they invite a story instead of a status update. A grandparent and a ten-year-old can both answer the same one. That’s the whole trick — a question small enough that answering it feels good, not like homework.
